Vilnius University is the oldest and largest Lithuanian higher education institution. Since its establishment in the 16th century, Vilnius University, as integral part of European science and culture has embodied the concept of a classical university and the unity of studies and research.
Institute of International Relations and Political Science (IIRPS VU) and Law Faculty (LF VU) are a faculty-status holding core academic units of Vilnius State University. LF VU covers such areas as Humanitarian Law, International Public Law, Human Rights Law, Refugee Law, International Treaty Law, Legal status of NGOs. IIRPS VU conducts research in the field of domestic policy, governing, international relations, war and armed conflicts, conflict resolution, peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction processes, foreign policy and diplomacy of both Lithuania and other countries.
The region of Lithuania has a particular interest in fostering the area of IHL and humanitarian action. Since the experience in the related issues in the region is being built only within past 20 years, the advanced programs of doctorate training are of the utmost importance and necessary for the existing and future personnel.
