The University of Luxembourg is a new multilingual university founded in 2003, the first and only university of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg; it is a small institution with almost 6000 students. Teaching, research and knowledge transfer at the highest international level: those are three ambitious goals that the university sets from the start. The University of Luxembourg offers a range of high quality bachelors. However, the focus of its teaching is always on Master’s and PhDs. The academic staff members come from all around the world and work in interdisciplinary teams. The university wants to serve the society and economy of Luxembourg as a place of reflection, and to develop into a motor of economic diversification.
The Human Rights Observatory of the University, created in 2009, has the mission to promote scientific and teaching activities in the fields of human rights in an interdisciplinary and multi-cultural environment. In the framework of the programme on European Governance activities are organised around the notions of development and humanitarian actions together with NGO’s, especially “Promoting Scientific-Civil Society Dialogue on International Development” (ScivDev).
